From Tuesday 2nd to Saturday 6th May the boys of Year 7 and Year 8 spent a week of linguistic and cultural immersion in Normandy, France.
On the Tuesday morning they were wished a great Bon Voyage and started their journey over La Manche (the Channel) by ferry to Caen. The boys stayed at Château de la Baudonnière, a French language centre with a fantastic reputation for giving its guests the chance to live a week of la vie française (French life).
On Wednesday morning the boys were led by the animateurs (the guides) in their activities of l’escrime (fencing), l’escalade (climbing), le tir à l’arc (archery) and la fabrication du pain (baking).
They all threw themselves into the challenges of speaking French, especially at meal times when we heard the refrain ‘Je voudrais encore du pain s’il vous plait’ countless times.
On Thursday, the boys had the chance to visit the local market in Dinan and also tour the historic Mont Saint Michel. They also brought some excellent dégusiements (costumes) and tried escargots (snails) during the soirée française. They had more activities on Friday before starting the long return journey.
The boys were a credit to the school and to themselves throughout the trip, bravo à tous! A huge thank you to Justin, Jeremy, Ally and Callum for their tireless efforts in making the trip run well and in supporting the boys.
