ST ANTHONY’S NURSERY NW3 BROCHURE

About our Nursery

St. Anthony’s Nursery at the Boys’ School opened in September 2023. St. Anthony’s Nursery is a co-ed with boys and girls enrolled between 2 and 4 years of age. We now have approximately 30 children in the Nursery and still growing!

The Nursery curriculum follows the statutory framework set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage which emphasises both adult and child-led activities. Particular focus is given to Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Emotional Development. The key focus will be building knowledge, skills, and confidence so that the children will be equipped to transfer (when the time comes) seamlessly to Reception.

Opportunities to share best practice and coordinate activities are scheduled through our St. Anthony’s Schools EYFS Hub, including the Learning in Nature programme. Within this environment, we at St Anthony’s recognise and value parents as the first educators. Through working in partnership with our parents we can ensure that the girls and boys will thrive. We believe our youngest learners will learn to communicate confidently and engage with both their indoor learning space and enjoy all that St. Anthony’s Nursery has to offer.

The Nursery Day

The Nursery is housed on the ground floor of the Junior House at 90 Fitzjohn’s Avenue. The day begins with a soft drop off between 8:00 to 8:30am. Parents escort their child into their classroom and say a quick goodbye. We have 2 classes – Hedgehogs (2-3 years) and Squirrels (3-4 years) and children are taught separately in their lovely new classrooms. The older children will also attend assembly with Junior House (Reception to Year 3), for a short while, every Monday morning.

The children have a fun filled schedule of lessons, including; Art, Drama French, Phonics, Numeracy, Music and PE. There is a morning and afternoon break, with a snack provided by the school, after each session. The large playground provides an ideal space for the little ones to use up all that boundless energy.

Lunch is 11:30. School meals are cooked on the premises and will be brought into our Nursery and served on our small tables. There is a choice of two main courses each day, one of which is a vegetarian dish. Children are presented with a plated tray of food, which contains their choice of main course, together with a selection of vegetables. They also have the choice of bread, soup and a selection of salads. Pupils are encouraged to try what is on their plates and their trays are supplemented, as appropriate.

Pick up is either at 12:30 for half-day or 15:00 for full day. Again, parents will come into their child’s classroom to say goodbye to their teacher. We also offer daily sundown sessions from 15:00-17:00, these incur a charge of just £20 per session and can be booked on the day, if necessary.

Transfer from NW3 Nursery to St Anthony’s Boys’ School

Children at the St. Anthony’s Nurseries have prioritised entry to Reception classes at the Boys’ School. We believe that our nursery makes children ‘big school ready.’ Boys will automatically enter Reception, should their parents wish.

Both girls and boys are well prepared for the 4+ assessment at other leading schools – including Hampstead Hill School, Hampstead Parochial and more. We do understand that we are not the only school in Hampstead, and want to give our little ones the maximum opportunity to succeed in their future, wherever that may be.
