A Busy Morning at St Anthony’s: Raising Funds for Charity and Engaging with Politics

Posted: 3rd November 2023

We had a very busy morning at St Anthony’s. The cake sale held just before the break raised over £700.00 for Mary’s Meals, and at assembly today a representative from Maggie’s Cancer Care at the Royal Free was bearing a huge cheque (literally) for £1,700.00, money raised by boys and their families. Earlier this week the boys of the Junior House helped load a van full of tinned food and dry products, ready to be shipped to the Sacred Heart Foodbank on Quex Road.

Senior boys were treated to a talk from political pundit, Andrew Pierce, at assembly this morning. Andrew delivered a refreshing and candid account of his interactions with Prime Ministers and emphasised the noble tradition of journalistic work, which should have the search for truth at its core. We learned that Andrew’s favourite Prime Minister was Margaret Thatcher, and that he boasts a life-size cut out of her in his office that is often brought out to cries of acclaim or despair from unsuspecting guests. There were lots of questions from the boys.
