St. Anthony’s took 28 boys from Years 6, 7 & 8 on tour to Barcelona for a week of Football, culture and site seeing.

Our touring party made up an U11 team and two U13s teams, who all took part in the World School Games. They faced opposition from Colombia, Dubai, Spain and Portugal, with all teams representing the school with great pride and sportsmanship. The U11 team played particularly well, winning bronze and beating NUS Dubai 2-0 in the 3rd/4th playoff final. The tournament was held at the wonderful facilities of Football Salou.

Our pupils spent an afternoon training at FC Espanyol’s training ground, working with their academy coaches, they went to watch a La Liga match between FC Espanyol and Real Vallodolid at the RCDE Stadium and they all enjoyed a stadium tour of the world famous Camp Nou, home of FC Barcelona.

A real highlight of the trip was having a guided tour of La Sagrada Familia, the oldest Catholic Church under construction in the world. The group also enjoyed spending free time at the Cambris Park Hotel resort where the weather was warm enough for swimming in the outdoor pool.

I would like to thank our boys who behaved exceptionally well whilst travelling and taking part in various excursions and to our staff (Anthony, Daniel and Matt) who accompanied the boys.

We look forward to another international Football Tour in the Autumn Term of 2024.
