Life in Reception
Reception is a critical stage in a learner's educational journey. Our programme is carefully crafted to cultivate academic and personal potential; in particular, we aim:
- To develop boys’ knowledge and skills according to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, focusing on communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development.
- To help boys grow in confidence and self-esteem.
- To encourage boys to have good relationships with each other and teachers.
- To provide an environment that is secure where boys actually want to learn.
- To work in partnership with parents in assisting their child’s development and learning.
Our Head of Reception organises the classroom environment and resources so as to maximise the interest and application of boys. There is plenty of scope for boys to work independently and in small groups, with tasks set according to the potential of each child. The boys are taken out of lessons for individual reading twice a week and make giant leaps of progress in both phonics and numeracy.
