Richard attended the Salesian College in Battersea before going up to Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he read History. Richard remained at Cambridge on graduating to undertake a PGCE, before going on to teach History and History of Art at Wymondham College and Ampleforth. At Ampleforth, he was the Tutor for Scholars. Richard returned to the south when he was appointed Head of History and Politics, Head of Humanities and Tutor for the More Able at Emanuel School in Wandsworth. Senior leadership positions followed as Head of the Upper School at Dulwich College and Vice Principal (Academic) at MPW Independent Sixth Form College. He has been Headmaster of St Anthony’s since September 2020.
Richard’s vision for education is holistic and he believes in the provision of high-quality academic teaching alongside sport, music, drama and a varied co-curricular programme. He wants the pupils of St Anthony’s to have a strong intellectual, moral and spiritual formation that will offer a compass for life.
In his spare time, Richard enjoys going to the gym, playing the violin, listening to the music of J.S. Bach, travelling and spending time with his two miniature dachshunds.
