About Our Nursery

St. Anthony’s Nursery, a co-ed for learners aged 2-4 years, opened in September 2023. We now have around 30 children in the nursery and are still growing.

Our nursery curriculum follows the statutory framework set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which emphasises both adult- and child-led activities. Particular focus is given to Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Emotional Development. The key focus will be building knowledge, skills, and confidence so that the children will be equipped to transfer seamlessly to Reception.

We at St. Anthony’s recognise and value parents as the first educators, and little ones flourish due to our strong parent partnerships. Opportunities to share best practice and coordinate activities are scheduled through our EYFS Hub, including the Learning in Nature programme.

Our youngest learners learn to communicate confidently and engage with our excellent indoor learning environment while also enjoying all that St. Anthony’s Nursery has to offer.

The Nursery Day

The nursery is housed on the ground floor of the Junior House at 90 Fitzjohn’s Avenue. Our soft drop-off is from 8am to 8:30am, when parents will escort their child to the classroom for a quick goodbye. We have two classes, Hedgehogs (2-3 years) and Squirrels (3-4 years), taught separately in our lovely new classrooms. Our older children attend Junior House (Reception to Year 3) assembly for a short while every Monday.

Our fun-filled schedule includes lessons in Art, Drama, French, Phonics, Numeracy, Music and PE. There is a morning and afternoon break, with a snack provided by the school, after each session. A spacious playground offers the ideal setting for our little ones to be active and use up their boundless energy.

Lunchtime is at 11:30am. Meals are cooked on the premises before being brought into our nursery, where the children eat at their little tables. There is a choice of two main courses each day, one of which is vegetarian. Children are served a selection of vegetables and a choice of bread, soup and salads. Pupils are encouraged to try what is on their plates and their trays are supplemented, as appropriate.

Pick-up is at 12:30pm (half day) or 15:00pm (full day). Once again, parents will come to the classroom, and children will say goodbye to their teacher. We offer daily sundown sessions from 15:00pm to 17:00pm, at a charge of just £20 per session; these can be booked on the day, if necessary.

Nursery Facilities

An Engaging & Stimulating Environment

A beautiful learning environment is capable of inciting and sustaining curiosity and a wonder at learning. As specialists in early learning, we recognise that aesthetics and organisation can and do impact on the quality of learning; as such, we offer innovative and creative spaces, both indoor and outdoor, which are deliberately crafted and prepared by our educators to support child agency, collaboration, inquiry, and focus.

Transferring to Reception

Our nursery helps children to become ‘big school ready'. Boys at our nursery have prioritised entry to St. Anthony's School for Boys and will automatically enter Reception, should their parents wish.

We provide learners with the best opportunity to succeed in their future, wherever that may be. At our nursery, both girls and boys are well-prepared for the 4+ assessment at leading schools, such as Hampstead Hill School, Hampstead Parochial and others.
