St Anthony’s Schools comprises a Boys and Girls School each with their particular identity, history and governance. A nursery for boys and girls is located at St Anthony’s Girls’ School and it is expected the majority of boys will make the 4+ transfer into Reception at St Anthony’s Boys’ School.
Parents will have legitimate reasons for seeking single-sex education for their child and it is true that taught separately boys and girls will acquire skills and new interests that they may not have done in a mixed environment.
There remain, however, many opportunities in which boys and girls learn from each other, for example, through academic discussions, music-making, drama productions and where such engagement is enriching. Girls should not be ‘strangers’ to boys and vice-versa and working in partnership provides a model that is the best of the single-sex and co-educational worlds.
