Visit of ProfESSOR Helen Reid
This Wednesday, both the Senior and Junior house boys were each treated to a wonderful recital by visiting concert pianist and Professor at the Guildhall School of Music, Helen Reid. Her programme included a wide range music from Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Prokofiev and Gershwin.
The boys were keen to give their opinions to Helen regarding the mood and descriptions of her performances. Quite a few lucky boys actually got to stand next to Helen as she played the piano – a rare chance to stand so close to such a wonderful pianist in action.
Later, five of the school’s advanced pianists took part in a master class with Helen, who gave them some extremely useful advice on improving their performance and interpretation skills. Helen also commented on how impressed she was with the high quality of piano playing in the school. Later in the day, Helen also worked with some boys who have just started piano lessons at school with Anda. The day concluded with a performance of their group composition ‘The Boy Who Went to the Weather Wood’ in front of the Headmaster, Paul.
