French
French is taught from the Reception Year onwards where the youngest children are introduced to the language via such mediums as puppets, songs and visits from French- speaking theatre companies and story tellers. As their confidence grows, the Junior House pupils gradually build on the language they have absorbed by reading and writing phrases in French. When the boys arrive in the Senior House in Year Five, it becomes a fully-timetabled subject with weekly homework.
It is emphasised throughout the school that French is an international language and not just spoken in France.
The four skills of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing are all covered in detail in the Senior House and from Year Seven there are dedicated Oral classes once a week for each form.
Throughout the school the boys are not just taught about the French language but also learn about French-speaking culture and have access to French films, comics and cartoons etc.
Our aim is to make the boys feel the same enthusiasm for the French language that we do!
The photos show a recent French workshop for Reception.
